About the walk

King's Landing, told by a fan.

For a decade, the cobbles of Dubrovnik doubled as King's Landing. I was here when the crews came, when fake banners flew on the Stradun, when neighbours suddenly couldn't go home because Cersei was walking down their street in a sheet.

On this 2-hour walk we visit the locations that made the show — the Jesuit Stairs of the Walk of Shame, Fort Lovrijenac standing in for the Red Keep, the West Harbour where the Battle of Blackwater raged in fire and CGI. Along the way I'll point out what you don't see on screen: the hidden corners, the local crews' favourite coffee spots, the stone the producers loved and the streets we hated closing.

This isn't just a "look, that's where" tour. It's the story of a small Adriatic town that became the most filmed city in television history — and what that did to the people who already lived here.

Fort Lovrijenac doubles as the Red Keep in King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms. Lots of the scenes are filmed at this Fort including the tournament thrown in honour of King Joffrey’s name day in season two. The climb is real: expect roughly 170+ stone steps to reach the entrance.
"The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword."
PLEASE NOTE: The entrance fee for Fort Lovrjenac is €15 per person. However, entry is free if you have a valid Dubrovnik Pass
Itinerary

Six stops, one story.

01
Pile bay
Stannis Baratheon's fleet, wildfire turning the sea green, and the small harbour where it all  happened. Pile Bay is the filming location for Blackwater Bay, where the famous Battle of the Blackwater takes place in Game of Thrones.
02
Fort Lovrijenac
The 11th-century fortress that became Joffrey's tournament grounds and Cersei's home in season two. I'll show you the angles the cameras loved and the inscription above the door that the Ragusans carved 600 years before HBO arrived.
03
Pile Gate
One notable scene filmed there is Jaime Lannister's return to King's Landing after losing his hand. As he and Brienne arrive at the city, the production used the area around Pile Gate as  the entrance to the capital.
04
Fort Minčeta
House of the Undying - Daenerys' vision sequence in Qarth was filmed on this 15th-century tower. I'll show you what they CGI'd and what was already there 600 years before any dragon was imagined.
05
Jesuits Stairs
Where Cersei descended in shame, surrounded by chanting crowds. We stand at the top, look down those steps, and I'll tell you how three days of filming brought traffic in the Old Town to a complete halt.
06
Rector Palace
Rector's Palace in Dubrovnik is where Daenerys Targaryen meets the Spice King of Qarth. The palace's courtyard and staircase were used as the Spice King's residence.
